How to Explode Your Team and Duplicate Your Efforts in Network Marketing, MLM, or Affiliate Programs.

Today we are going to cover a couple of different topics and the first one is about working with people. Sometimes when we start a business it’s easy to get caught up in making a sale or- in network marketing and affiliate programs- to get new members to join our team because we are excited about the income possibilities of growing a business.

We sometimes have a tendency to forget that we need to deal with people and treat people not as dollar signs. I see this over and over again when new people join my team and it’s not intentional. It’s an exciting idea to be able to have the opportunity to make your life time dreams come true.

I am going to specifically talk about building a network marketing or affiliate business and not selling products or services right now.

While you are building your business, be aware of how you approach people. You don’t want to come across like a salesman and you don’t want to blab everything you know about your business to someone you approach. People flat out will not want to deal with you. Especially your family and friends. They know you best and they know you know absolutely nothing about the business you just joined. Right?

The best way to get your business in front of people is to find 3-4 main highlights about your business and then sit down and do a one on one with a dvd, website or your local business presentation.

Your job is only to get people agree to look at the business opportunity and not to sell them in the business. Once they take a look at the business, let them make the decision if they want be a part of it or not. Now, if they have questions, you should not be the one answering them. Especially if these people are your family and friends. Because they know you know nothing about the business that you joined. You should have your sponsor or a fellow team member answer the questions for you. That person is the expert and is a 3rd party credibility for you.

Let me give you an example on how this works with Ambit Energy:

I go to my friend Ken and ask Ken the following:

Ken, let me ask you something: How many people do you know that use gas and electric.
Ken’s going to say something like “Everyone”.

I say right.

How many of those people would like to pay less or potentially get it for free?
Chances are the answer is going to be “Everyone.”

Ken, how would you like to make money just for referring people to the program?
Chances are that Ken is going to say “how do I do that”?

At that time, you do not say anything else about the business. STOP! I tell my team to write those questions down and to put stop in big letters right after that.

Now if you have a product company, you may want to use something like:
How many people do you know that use….input your product or service

How many of those people would like to benefit….you add the benefits

How would you like to make money referring people to the program?

Then stop!

Now, here is where most people get into trouble. They ask you the dreaded question of “what’s this all about”? And here is where you need to be really disciplined or you could loose a really good person on your team…

You should always respond with: I would love to go into over the phone and it wouldn’t make any sense to you because you are not seeing what I see. When can we get together and I will show it to you. Or, can you meet me at the Marriott this Tuesday at 7:15 and you can meet our local team of professionals. If that doesn’t work for the person, then, as a last resort, send them to your website.

Whatever you do, after you ask the 3 questions, do not go beyond there with any information about your business. Your job is to get the information in front of people and not to tell and sell.

When working a network marketing or affiliate program, we have to remember to check our egos at the door and remind our selves that we are not the expert. Our job is to just get the information in front of the people and if they have questions to put them in touch with the expert which is your partner or fellow team member.

You can also use another technique- which works for me - I beg people to come to the local meeting or to sit down with me for practice. It works every time with family and friends.

I just did it a couple of weeks ago with my sister in-law. The conversation went like this…Julie, it’s Michele. I know you don’t want to do Ambit, but could you do me a huge favor and meet me at the Marriott on Tuesday at 7:15. I haven’t personally brought anyone in awhile and I need to lead by example and bring someone, can you do that for me? I’ll never ask you again, promise….She showed up and early. Now, she does not want to do the business, but she is giving me referrals because she understands it’s a good program. You never know where referrals can go. You could get your next superstar from referrals.

That leads me to share with you how important it is to ask people for referrals. I have to be honest, I just started getting good at asking for referrals this past week. Our company had a training event a few weekends ago and it dawned on me that I have been missing out on building my business bigger just by asking someone for just 1 referral.

This past week I asked my friend Carol, who looked at Ambit and it wasn’t for her, but she is sent me a name of someone she thought that may be interested. I called her friend Donna and said, I Donna, you don’t know me, but I am a friend of Carol's and she thought you may be interested in something.

Donna replies, well what is it? Let me ask you this: I simple asked her the above 3 questions and she naturally responded with “how do I do that”? Well Donna since we live a few hours away from each other, I would like to give you my website and I gave Donna my website and will be following up with Donna this afternoon.

Now, I don’t know if Donna is going to join or not, but I would have never had a chance to show Donna if it wasn’t for my friend Carol. And who knows, Donna could be the next superstar on my team.

Sometimes we forget that our job is to show the plan and not sell the plan and hopefully this makes sense to you.

Another thing I would like to address is that in a network marketing or affiliate programs we are dealing with all sorts of people. Not everyone is going to join your business. It’s not always easy to build a business because we are dealing with all sorts of people.

My friend and team member Patrick Nelson and I were recently talking about an old training that a friend of ours use to do and I thought I would share it with you.

Let’s say you were a waiter or waitress at a restaurant and you go to your table and ask people if they want a cup of coffee. The first table you go to has three people and you ask each one if they want coffee, do you want coffee. Person one says no thank you, person two says, no thanks, person 3 says sure. Not everyone likes coffee. Just like, not everyone is going to like your business opportunity or affiliate program. The fact is that some people are smart and will see it, some just know they are not motivated enough to do anything and some people, by design, are just plain lazy.

You don’t want everyone in your business. You want people that see it like you do and work with those people. That’s what makes it a fun business. If you sell someone on the business or convince people to do it, your business will not grow the way you want it to grow and you won’t have any fun.

The reason is because if you sell or convince people to join your business, you are going to have to convince them to go to training, get on conference calls, go to local meetings, and this is wasting your time and theirs as well. If you just keep it simple and sort through the people to find the ones that see it-like you see it, your team will explode and grow and you can spend your time working with those who want it and not wasting time with those who don’t.

It’s also important to understand when you are building your business, especially if you are new to the business; you need to stay away from people that do not see the business the way you do and stay far away from negative people. Those people will only bring you down and suck the life out of you. I firmly believe the statement “Misery Loves Company” I have family members that are just like it.

I don’t know if you ever heard of the crabs in the bucket story, but it’s a fact. If you were to have a bucket of crabs and watch them; when a crab tries to reach the top of the bucket-the other crabs will grab him and bring him back down. That’s exactly what your broke and negative friends will do for you if you let them.

We all have choices and those choices will either bring you closer to your dreams or take your dreams far away from you.

If you want to succeed in a network marketing or affiliate programs then you really need to change your habits and your way of thinking. It can be hard to do for some and you may have to dig down deep to find out why you joined. Make a commitment to yourself that you will not let anyone or anything steal your dreams.

Have you heard the saying, that if you keep doing what you are doing, you will keep getting what your getting. It’s true. So if you do not like your current situation, the best advice that I can give you is the following…

Commit to your success and dedicate more time to your business. Some of you may be thinking, well I don’t have any more time. I assure you-that if you wrote down your daily habits there are things you could eliminate. Things like the nightly news (which, by the way, you should not be watching because it is one of those negative things that puts you in a negative frame of mind). I can tell you- from personal experience- that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. And, if you committed to 21 days of not turning on the negative news, you won’t miss it and you will find that you are in a more positive frame of mind.

You should have your goals written down and read them daily. I have a slide show of my goals that I watch everyday. This will help you stay focused on your goals.

You should also spend 10-15 minutes a day reading or listening to positive, self help and motivational materials.

You also need to plug into any and all team trainings, meetings, online conferences and talk to your sponsor and business partners daily. By doing this, you are keeping yourself in a more positive environment because you are plugging into successful, positive and like minded people.

Picture this. Let’s put people into two groups for now. On your left side you have the people that are negative, not motivated and think you are nuts for doing that type of business.

And, on your right side you have a successful mentor, successful coaches and excited team members.

Which side do you want to be on? Who are the people that are more likely to help you achieve your dreams?

Everything I am talking with you about today- is everything that I have experienced in my businesses and I can assure you that the business model works. It’s up to us to make the choice to succeed or not to succeed.

Now, I am going to switch gears and talk with you a little about a marketing system that is getting me and some of my team members in front of a lot of people. That system is called LazyRecruiter.com.

This is one of the best and most affordable marketing systems that I have ever used. How would you like to advertise your business for only 1.5 cents a lead. I have not found any advertising that compares to cost and results.
